Park Power wins award celebrating entrepreneurial success

By: David Morales
Each month we like to focus on Alberta Energy Marketers who have made a positive splash in Alberta’s energy sector. This month we would like to introduce Kris Kasawski of Edmonton, the founder of Park Power. Kasawski has recently won the Don Neil Young Entrepreneur Award presented by the Sherwood Park Chamber of Commerce. We are very proud of Kasawski and his achievement, and look forward to featuring him and Park Power in this article.
Over the years UTILITYnet has helped Energy Marketers, just like Kasawski, open businesses that provide affordable electricity, natural gas, and green energy rates to local customers.
Energy Marketers like Kasawski focus on keeping jobs in Alberta, lowering the cost of energy, and meeting the needs of local Albertans.
Kasawski special recognition
The Don Neil Young Entrepreneurial award, presented by the Sherwood Park Chamber of Commerce, is awarded to a young spirited person operating a business in the Strathcona County area. The recipient is judged on originality of the business concept, its success, leadership skills and their involvement in the community.
“It was very satisfying to win the Don Neil Young Entrepreneur Award and to be recognized for not only the growth and success of Park Power but also for my community building efforts,” said Kasawski. “After four years of hustling and working to grow Park Power, it is nice to have the hard work recognized.”
Small, local businesses have always been an important part of Kasawski’s life. Having worked in small businesses since he was 15 years old, he honed most of his business skills working for entrepreneurs in the bicycle and snowboard industries.
“It was always fulfilling when I was able to contribute my efforts and ideas to make positive impacts on the small businesses where I was employed,” said Kasawski. “When the opportunity to launch my own small business as an Energy Marketer with UTILITYnet came about, I was excited for the opportunity.”
In addition to Park Power offering Albertans competitive rates on electricity, natural gas and green energy (in partnership with Green Alberta Energy), Park Power is continually contributing to the local community.
“I believe in community building and trying to have a positive impact,” said Kasawski. “Park Power allows me a great avenue to achieve those goals. Through Park Power’s Community Partner Program, we share our profits with some awesome Alberta charities. As my business grows so will my community contributions.”
Park Power sponsors various local community initiatives, and Kasawski personally was involved in the construction of the Sherwood Park Outdoor Bike Park. Most recently he has taken on a volunteer role with Men as Allies working towards healthy masculinity and against family violence.
Small businesses key to the local community
Kasawski explained that small businesses play a major role in local communities as they provide an avenue for local and independent ideas and initiatives to be launched, and it is important to invest in them.
UTILITYnet, owner of Green Alberta Energy, has spent almost a decade helping entrepreneurs enter into Alberta’s energy market through its Energy Marketer Program.
The program features a low-cost business model that offers a unique opportunity for those looking to create a new revenue stream either for themselves, or to fund community programs and infrastructure.
“The relationship that Park Power has with UTLITYnet allows me to focus my efforts on business development and marketing electricity, natural gas, and green energy options,” said Kasawksi. “As I grow Park Power and its customer base, I can trust that the experience our customers are getting is a positive one.”
Kasawski left us on the note of why he enjoys being a small business owner here in Alberta.
“My favorite part about being a small business owner is having the opportunity to spread positivity and make positive impacts on my community. My goal is for Park Power to continue to grow our customer base so that I can continue to make positive contributions,” he said.
