Calgary Pride week kicked off on August 24 and this weekend Calgarians will come together to celebrate the city’s diversity at the pride parade and Pride in the Park.

This year marks the 28th iteration of the annual Calgary Pride Parade, and Spot Power is so proud to be one of the sponsors of this colourful event.

“It is such a great feeling to be able to support worthy causes that we believe in,” said Madeline Low, Director of Spot Power. “We have always been proud to provide a workplace free from discrimination and want to help foster the culture of inclusion within Calgary.”

Originally a small march of LGBT Calgarians, some of whom wore masks and bags over their faces to protect from persecution, the event has grown in leaps and bounds to become the second biggest parade in Calgary.

The parade, with more than 190 entries, runs from 11 am to 1 pm, Sunday, September 2 along 6 Avenue SW between 3 Street SE and 6 Street SE. A number of our staff and customers will be marching in the parade this year, along with our rainbow decorated Spot Power bicycle.

The festivities continue throughout the day on Prince’s Island Park at Pride in the Park from 11 am to 6 pm and includes live music, activities for the whole family, beer gardens, a marketplace, and more.

“For us, this is about encouraging inclusion and discouraging discrimination of any kind,” said Nick Clark, Director of Spot Power. “Life would be so much easier to live if we just accepted people for who they are. The city has come a long way, but there are still barriers that exists. We hope that our support, even though we are a small company, will help break down those barriers.”

We encourage you to join thousands of other Calgarians who will be participating in the events this weekend to show your support for the LGBTQ2+ community.

Stay tuned for photos from the event coming soon!
