Our Utility Network is Expanding

2020 has not been the kind of year to kick off a new decade. With news outlets reporting that 37% of Calgarians and 67% of Calgary business owners have experienced job or income loss due to the COVID-19 pandemic and Alberta’s struggling economy, it is clear that we are facing an uphill battle.

But, it’s important to remember that it’s not all doom and gloom. Take a break from “doom scrolling” for a moment and read about what some have done to help fellow Albertan businesses, even with the challenging economic climate. When the pandemic began, the message was “We’re all in this together.” Let’s not forget that we all have a role to play in getting our province back on its feet, and that every effort, no matter how small, can make a difference.

At UTILITYnet, we have always been committed to supporting the local economy and we are continuing that push by expanding our network. We are looking for talented individuals to join our team for the position of Customer Service Representative and SQL Developer. More details and how to apply below. But that’s not all.

Three New Locally Run Energy Marketers Launching This Fall

If you aren’t familiar with our operations, here is a quick summary of what we do.

We have been operating in Alberta for over 40 years, and the company was originally founded as a provider of billing validation, energy management, and financial services for Alberta’s oil and gas industry. Over the last decade, we have expanded and introduced the Energy Marketer Program that allows entrepreneurs, municipalities, and cooperatives to enter Alberta’s deregulated energy market.

This program has helped incubate over 20 locally-owned and operated energy retailing businesses across the province! That number is set to increase by three before the end of 2020. Each Energy Marketer has their own story as to why they decided to enter the market, but they all have something in common, they give back to their local communities in some way.

At the beginning of October we were proud to help launch Ridge Utilities, an Energy Marketer formed by the Village of Stirling as an innovative community sustainability initiative. 100% of the profits generated by Ridge Utilities through the sale of electricity, natural gas, and Internet services will be reinvested into the community and region.

Following Ridge in November will be two more locally-owned, small businesses: Alberta Utility Source (AUS) and ENERmin Solutions.

We also introduced our Marketing Associate program a number of years ago, providing regular Albertans with the opportunity to earn residual income by marketing electricity and natural gas to their own networks of contacts. By supporting our Marketing Associates, you are directly participating in supporting an individual and their family.

Each one of these ventures represents a few more local jobs and opportunities for the money Albertans spend on their utilities to stay within the local economy. Something that is more important now than ever.

Shopping Locally Makes a Difference

UTILITYnet had humble beginnings. We started as a staff of one when Madeline Low, our founder, launched the company from her living room. Today, our network of Energy Marketers provides electricity and natural gas to consumers in 400 communities across the province!

“It is truly amazing to see how much we have grown over our 40 years in business,” said Low. “Our continued success is thanks to our loyal customers and all of the hard working entrepreneurs behind each one of our Energy Marketers. Without Albertans making the choice to shop locally for their energy needs, we would not be in the position to continue growing during these challenging times.”

By purchasing your electricity, natural gas, or Internet services from one of our Energy Marketers, you are actively supporting Alberta’s economy and creating jobs. Our network of Marketing Associates also includes a number of non-profit charitable organizations whose revenue from the sale of utilities goes directly into funding programs that would otherwise be suffering as a result of reduced donations.

We’re Hiring

We have a diverse team with a wealth of experience in the energy industry. We make sure our customers stay informed and in touch with changes in Alberta’s volatile electricity and natural gas deregulated marketplace. Most importantly, we are passionate about being first to deliver new innovation in product offerings, automated billing services, lower prices, and the highest level of customer care.

If you are currently looking for work and feel you are customer-focused, innovative, hard-working, and have the skills outlined in either of the job opportunities below then we want to hear from you!

UTILITYnet is committed to employment equity, welcomes diversity in the workplace and encourages applications from all qualified individuals. Interested applicants should submit their resume and cover letter (including salary expectations) in PDF format to HR@UTILITYnet.net.
